Posting a brief clip, the DS Mike Lowrey and DS Marcus Burnett duo can be seen walking towards each other before turning to the camera in character.
A CGI explosion appears in the background and the present-day actors are then replaced on screen by their 1995 selves in the same pose – soundtracked by Simple Plan's 'I'm Just a Kid'.
Smith's caption read: "When we say FOR LIFE we mean it. Bad Boys came out 26 years ago today! @martinlawrence."
In the comments section, Bad Boys fanatics joined in with the celebrations, as one replied: "The fact that you two brothers were at the height of popularity with your sitcoms and partnered on an action-comedy is still pure genius."
"26 years ago?!! Well damn! Aren't we getting old," suggested another, before a third person declared: "And will FOREVER be a fave!!!!"

The third instalment of the Bad Boys franchise, Bad Boys for Life, was released last year.
In our three-star review, Digital Spy wrote: "With Michael Bay sidelined and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah taking over directing duties, this still has the feel of a '90s crime thriller, but spends more time on characterisation and Lawrence and Smith's onscreen chemistry than both of the previous movies combined."
