Yahoo Movies Bad Bunny Tests Positive for COVID-19, Cancels American Music Awards Performance
Puerto Rican singer-rapper Bad Bunny cancelled his scheduled performance on the American Music Awards Sunday night after testing positive for coronavirus. His rep confirmed the diagnosis on Monday, according to the Associated Press, although no explanation was given for his cancellation at the time, leading to many frustrated responses online from fans.
The artist, who was scheduled to perform with Jhay Cortez, won Favorite Male Latin Artist and Favorite Latin Album for his release “YHLQMDLG,” and gave a taped acceptance speech.
“To all my fans, to all the people who support me and listen to my music, I do it all for you,” he said as he accepted the award. “Latinos are ruling the world. I love you all so much.”
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, was scheduled to sing his hit, “Dákiti,” with Jhay Cortez at the event but canceled without explanation.
His rep told the AP that the artist was not showing any major symptoms of the illness, as of Monday. She did not provide further details, saying only that the musician was not granting any interviews.
Bunny also appeared during the broadcast in a new Cheetos commercial, for its Flamin’ Hot brand. The ad featured Bunny working in the studio and seeing colorful visions after eating some of the Cheetos, slipped onto the studio console by the brand’s cartoon mascot, whom Bunny winked at during the ad’s final moments. Relatedly, Cheetos also joined with Bunny for its “Deja Tu Huella” campaign and will donate $500,000 to the Latin community through Bunny’s Good Bunny Foundation.
