Barry Keoghan's new movie confirms UK release

Bird, the new film starring Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, has confirmed its release in the UK.

The latest film from acclaimed filmmaker Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey) follows 12-year-old Bailey (Nykiya Adams) as she lives with her single dad Bug (Keoghan) and brother Hunter (Jason Buda) in a squat in North Kent.

As per the logline, Bug doesn't have much time for his kids, and his negligence drives Bailey wild as she seeks "attention and adventure" from elsewhere. Rogowski, best known for A Hidden Life and Passages, will play the titular character.

Ahead of its world premiere on Thursday (May 16) at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Mubi has announced that it will be distributing the film in the UK, though a theatrical or streaming release date is yet to be announced.

While fans of Keoghan might have to wait a while for the release of Bird, the star made a huge splash with audiences when Saltburn was released on streaming at the end of last year. At the time, Keoghan revealed his uneasiness at viewers being able to pause during that scene.

"They can press pause... and look at it," he quipped, referring to the closing scene which sees the star dance naked. "That's one thing that kind of freaks me out, is that people can [pause it]."

"The initial thing was about me having no clothes on. I'm a bit, ehhh," he added about the now iconic scene. "But after take one, I was ready to go. I was like, 'Let's go again. Let's go again.'

"You kind of forget, because there's such a comfortable environment created, and it gives you that licence to go, 'All right, this is about the story now.'"

Bird currently has no release date. Saltburn is available to stream on Prime Video.
