Batman V Superman Toppled By Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss

‘Batman V Superman’ has suffered yet-another indignation…

It looks as though Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman V Superman’ has lost the US box office #1 spot this weekend, to the newly-released (and rather mediocre) Melissa McCarthy comedy, ‘The Boss’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Batman V Superman’ earned $23.44 million at the US box office this last weekend… with ‘The Boss’ managing to squeeze ahead and take the top spot.

“Melissa McCarthy, squaring off against both Batman and Superman over the weekend, scored a narrow victory, as the raucous comedian’s new feature The Boss claimed the top spot at the North American box office in a virtual photo finish with an estimated $23.48 million, just a few dollars above Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’s weekend gross of $23.44 million.”

And it looks as though ‘Batman V Superman’ has fallen even further than before, with a 54 percent drop off in its third weekend.

This brings ‘Batman V Superman’s totals to $783.5 million worldwide. Not a terrible return, but surely vastly below what Warner Bros. was hoping for… and nowhere near the enormous success of Marvel’s ‘Avengers’ movies.

But does ‘Batman V Superman’ stand any chance of catching up?

US box office figures reveal that after its third week, ‘Batman V Superman’ has earned $296.7 million domestic… while ‘Avengers Assemble’ managed a whopping $476.7 million for the same period.

Even ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ pulled in a massive $383.2 million in its first three weeks.

But the most humiliating defeat of all has to be losing the #1 US box office slot to ‘The Boss’ – a film which has managed a dismal 17% fresh rating at rotten tomatoes.

But will ‘Batman V Superman’ recover?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it’s a very dark night for Warner Bros.

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ appeared in cinemas on 25 March 2016.
