Batman vs. Superman: Timothy Dalton to appear as Alfred?

Every new Batman needs a good valet… and it looks as though Ben Affleck could be getting James Bond star Timothy Dalton as the iconic Alfred.

After the controversial casting of Ben Affleck as Batman, we've been inundated with rumours about who will be joining him on screen. We've heard that DC's Lex Luthor could make an appearance and even that Matt Damon and Jennifer Garner might get to put on some superhero garb. But the latest rumours suggest that the suave and sophisticated Timothy Dalton could appear as Alfred Pennyworth… and apparently Zack Snyder is rather keen.

[Bryan Cranston addresses Lex Luthor rumours]

According to Cosmic Book News, the charming British actor is tipped for the part of Batman's butler and valet, Alfred Pennyworth.

"Our DC Entertainment source has provided us with information that Zack Snyder is eyeing Timothy Dalton for the role of Alfred."

"We are told it is by no means official, but Snyder, and to an extent David Goyer, have ideas for the major supporting cast members already. We are told Timothy Dalton is being looked at for a different take on Alfred Pennyworth as an example of something that is being thrown about."

Of course, this is just a rumour… and since it's been brought to us by the same folks who apparently 'confirmed' Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor (which has since been refuted by the man himself) I'd say we have to be extra cautious.

But what if it turns out to be true?

In my opinion, it's an interesting choice. At first glance, he's certainly not Alfred from the comic books. But then, neither was Michael Caine. And at least we already know that he looks pretty great with a moustache. But the big question is whether Timothy Dalton and Ben Affleck would build up the rapport that Caine and Bale had on screen. That's got to be a huge factor in this and I can't help feeling that the two are rather mismatched. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

But that's apparently not all…

After officially casting Ben Affleck as Batman, it's claimed that Warner Bros. are "moving on to the rest of the cast." So could we see further casting announcements in the weeks to come? I certainly hope so.

What do you think of Timothy Dalton as Alfred? Would it work alongside Affleck's Batman? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
