Batman vs. Superman: Who will come out on top?

After the announcement of the upcoming 'Batman vs. Superman' movie, many of us fans have wondered who will come out on top… and it seems Zack Snyder might already have the answer.

Since we first heard of DC's plans for a 'Batman vs. Superman' movie, there's been only one question on our minds - who would win? Pitting the might of Bruce Wayne's technological arsenal against the last son of Krypton might seem a bit futile… but don't count Batman out of the fight just yet. After all, he's a lot more cunning than we might think.

But despite this epic match-up, it looks as though director Zack Snyder already has a favourite for the fight of the century… and it's pretty much as you'd expect.

[Rumour: Batman vs. Superman title confirmed?]

Back last year, Zack Snyder was asked this very question at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Who would win in a fight - Batman or Superman? And his answer could be more revealing than we initially thought.

"Look, I love Batman," he explained to the Hall H crowds. "He's awesome - literally awesome. But like… really?"

Of course, this is problem that most fans seem to be having when it comes to a Batman vs. Superman face-off. Would Batman really be much of a challenge for an alien superhero with super-strength, laser-vision and the power of flight?

Well, the battle could be a lot closer than you'd think…

There's always Kryptonite…

I know what you're thinking - one of the biggest McGuffin's of all time re-introduced as a means of allowing Batman to compete with a god-like superhero. But that's exactly what they did in the comic-books. A Kryptonite Ring was given to Batman during the 'Dark Knight Over Metropolis' series… and is explained as Earth's defence against Superman in the event that he was out of control.

But would Zack Snyder reintroduce the legendary green stuff to the 'Man of Steel' universe? While he ruled out Kryptonite in 'Man of Steel', he's already hinted that it could appear in a sequel… but will that take the form of Batman's legendary anti-Superman ring?

Mercy could be his greatest weakness…

If Kryptonite doesn't float your boat, what about Superman's strict and upright moral code? We all saw how badly Superman handled the death of Zod in 'Man of Steel' and it's already been hinted that we will see how Zod's death affects Clark Kent in the sequel. But will this stop him from putting an end to Batman?

In my opinion, this could be Superman's greatest weakness… at least, for the time being. Batman is a hardened vigilante who will stop at nothing to do what he thinks is right. But poor Kal-El has been affected by the death of General Zod, perhaps vowing to never kill again. And it's the formation of his boy-scout ideals that could prove to be his undoing. Or at least give Batman a sporting chance.

But then there's another school of thought when it comes to the battle between the world's greatest heroes. Perhaps that should be no victor at all. If the comic-books have taught us anything, it's that neither Superman or Batman are easy to get rid of. In fact, in 'The Dark Knight Returns' (which is rumoured to be the basis for the 'Batman vs. Superman' movie) we see Bruce Wayne fake his own death… leaving neither one of them on top.

But how will this play out on the big screen? For now, we'll just have to wait and see.

Who do you think would win in a fight? Does Batman really stand a chance? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
