New BBC Britney Spears documentary to air in May

Following the recent release of Framing Britney Spears, the BBC announced its own documentary looking at the life and controversial conservatorship of the legendary popstar.

The new documentary, titled The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship, will be release on BBC iPlayer on Saturday, May 1. It will air a few days later on BBC Two, going out at 9pm on Wednesday, May 5.

Crossing Continents' Inside Gay Pakistan and Hometown's Mobeen Azhar fronts the hour-long piece, which sees him travel to Los Angeles and Spears' home state of Louisiana and meet people involved in the lengthy court battles surrounding Britney.

Mobeen also interviews people who know Britney, including her former choreographer and The X Factor USA co-star Brian Friedman, her make-up artist Billy Brasfield, her lawyer Lisa MacCarley, and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Framing Britney Spears was critically well-received when it dropped in February, although some felt like it left out important aspects and people involved in the complicated legal situation.

Britney herself responded to the film, writing on Instagram: "I didn't watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in… I cried for two weeks and well… I still cry sometimes.

"I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy… love… and happiness."

Meanwhile, Netflix is working on its own documentary movie about Britney Spears' life and her conservatorship.

Framing Britney Spears is available to watch on Hulu in the US, and on Sky Documentaries and NOW in the UK.
