Beastie Boys Snub Arnold Schwarzenegger Over Music Rights

The Beastie Boys have doled out a withering criticism of Arnold Schwarzenegger's post-politics film work, after they denied him permission to use their track 'Sabotage' in his film of the same name.

Despite being offered 'a lot of money', the New York band declined the request, confirmed band-member Michael Diamond, better known as Mike D.

“It felt like too much of an endorsement,” he said. “We weren’t fans of Mr. Schwarzenegger’s recent... work.”

Indeed, the film proved a critical and commercial disaster, making back so far just $17.5 million (£10.4 million) of its $35 million (£21 million) production budget.

Diamond and Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock, are currently embroiled in a court case with the makes of the energy drink Monster, after it used some of their tracks in a promotional video without permission.

They are suing the company for $1 million, saying that they would have said 'absolutely no' to the company had it asked to use the tracks.

“We do not let our music get used in in commercials for commercial products,” said Diamond.

But in a sad turn of events for fans of the group, Diamond added that they had promised not to make any new music following the death of Adam Yauch, the third member of the band, known as MCA.

“We have not been able to tour since MCA, Adam Yauch, died,” he said. “We can’t make new music.”
