Ben Affleck has revealed that he’s recently completed a stint in rehab for his addiction to alcohol.

The actor and director took to Facebook yesterday to release a statement about his treatment, his second trip to rehab since 2001.

“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.

“I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”

Affleck’s personal and professional life has been somewhat in recent years, with a split from his wife Jennifer Garner announced in 2015.

Meanwhile, recent movies ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and his own ‘Live By Night’ have been panned by critics, the last losing a huge amount of money at the box office.

He also recently announced that he was pulling out of directing ‘The Batman’, the next instalment of the Batman series for Warner Bros and DC, though he will still star.

“Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require,” Affleck said in a statement in January.

“Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Affleck went into rehab in 2001 for unspecified reasons.

He told The Hollywood Reporter in 2012: “I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be.

“It was more a ‘let me get myself straight,’ before it became a rite of passage.”
