Ben Hardy takes on deadly gangster priests in first trailer for Pixie

Bohemian Rhapsody and former EastEnders star Ben Hardy is taking on deadly gangster priests in his new movie Pixie.

Paramount has released the hilarious first trailer for the comedy thriller which also stars Olivia Cooke, Daryl McCormack, Colm Meaney, Dylan Moran, Chris Walley and Alec Baldwin.

The movie follows the eponymous Pixie (Cooke) who wants to avenge her mother's death by masterminding a heist, only to see her plans go pear-shaped when she goes on the run with two young men (Hardy and McCormack).

Unfortunately for the duo, it looks like they've killed one of the "deadly gangster priests" that Pixie tells them about, leading to them being chased across the Wild Irish countryside by gangsters.

These include Baldwin's priest ("the lord will have His vengeance") and a rival gang led by Pixie's stepfather (Meaney), as teased by a shoot-out we see taking place in a church.

Pixie and the guys find themselves having to pit their wits against everyone to survive, with Pixie taking on the patriarchy to claim the right to shape her own life – and avenge her mother's death in the process.

"Ever since I started work, it's been a bit of a boys' club," Cooke told the Daily Mail about taking on the lead role in the movie which only contains "three other, much smaller, female roles".

"I've inherently just been able to combat that quite easily to the point where the director, Barnaby [Thompson], said to me, 'You're a bit scary, Olivia'... Boys are easy to get onside a lot of the time."

Last year, Hardy reflected on his decision to leave EastEnders which has seen him go on to appear in the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody and Netflix's 6 Underground.

"The problem with being in it for so long was that I found myself getting a little bit complacent," he said. "I started to feel myself getting lazy as an actor. I needed to give myself a kick up the arse and get out there."

Pixie is set for release in UK and Irish cinemas on October 23.
