Ben Mendelsohn Rumoured For Justice League Dark Villain

It looks as though ‘Justice League Dark’ is beginning to gather steam… as Ben Mendelsohn is rumoured for a villainous role.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the 46-year-old Australian actor is being eyed for the main villain in ‘Justice League Dark’.

“According to sources, the hot rumour is that actor Ben Mendelsohn, best known to fanboys for his role in The Dark Knight Rises, is being eyed to play villain Anton Arcane,” they said. “There is a kicker though. Mendelsohn would consider taking the role subject to who ends up directing the movie.”

At the moment, no director has been attached to the project since Guillemo Del Toro left ‘Justice League Dark’ behind… but we hear that Warner Bros. is actively looking for a new director to helm the ambitious movie.

But who is Anton Arcane?

A super-villain from the DC comic books, Anton Arcane is considered arch0nemesis to Swamp Thing – one of the heroes we all assume will star in ‘Justice League Dark’. A mad scientists obsessed with the notion of becoming immortal, he created the monstrous ‘Un-Men’ as well as dabbling with other biological experiments involving the deceased.

He even created the Patchwork Man by re-animating the mutilated corpse of his own brother.

Lovely.

But will Mendelsohn portray Anton Arcane on the big screen?

He certainly sounds like a formidable foe for the Justice League Dark… and has a suitably grim backstory. But it sounds as though Mendelsohn’s involvement is far from confirmed, as well as the rest of the cast.

Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor are rumoured to be in contention for the role of John Constantine, with Monica Bellucci eyed for Madame Xanadu. Ron Perlman is still being considered for the role of Swamp Thing.

But as always, these remain rumours… for now.
