If you’re looking for a cheap big brand smart TV to put in the manger this Christmas, then rejoice. Currys is selling this 32-inch Samsung 4-series flatscreen for £199, and it’s not short on features.

With a slim bezel and curved wide feet, the T4300 puts a smart face forward, and there’s a healthy roster of streaming services on board, courtesy of Samsung’s well-regarded Tizen smart hub. Tizen uses easy to navigate content rails to present apps and programme recommendations. Just scroll down until something catches your eye, then select.

As befits an entry-level telly, the model has two HDMI inputs for connecting external devices, a USB port, and built-in Wi-Fi.

Screen resolution is 720p HD Ready (that means a resolution of 1366 x 768) rather than 4k, but significantly supports HDR. This means it’ll recognise an HDR10 signal from a connected device, like a PS4 games console, and then optimise it’s picture with an appropriate contrast boost.

There’s the promise of vibrant colour too, courtesy of a PurColour image engine, while an Ultra Clean View mode combats motion blur for crisper pictures.

Streaming apps include top attractions like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, as well as Catch-Up TV services BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5. The set also offers Samsung’s own free to watch collection of streaming channels, called Samsung TV Plus, so you’ll never be short of programmes to watch.

This makes the set ideal for smaller living rooms, a bedroom or office den.

Of course, the Tizen hub offers more than just streaming TV. It’s also compatible with Samsung SmartThings devices, so you can monitor them on screen, and works with a variety of smart assistants for voice control. It’s compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as Samsung's own Bixby voice service.

The TV is also Apple AirPlay 2 compatible. iPhone users can stream music directly from their iPhone or iPad, or include the Samsung TV in a wider group of AirPlay 2 devices. It’s worth noting that AirPlay 2 isn’t just for music. It also supports screen mirroring, so you can share photos, and stream video. All of which means you get a lot of TV tech for the price.

It’s also a lot more fun than frankincense and myrrh.
