Betsy Beers Buys in Bel Air

A low-slung and flat-roofed 1967 contemporary, which sits so close to the eastern border of Bel Air that it has a Brentwood zip code, has been sold by its original owners for $3.4 million to — so swears ever-dependable real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak — two-time Emmy nominated film and television producer Betsy Beers. Beers currently partners with Shonda Rhimes on, among other powerfully successful projects, “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and the hilariously hammy political melodrama “Scandal.”

The single-story residence was designed, per listing details, by celebrated architect Nisan Yale Matlin, who incorporated a plethora of classic, midcentury modern architectural memes, such as post-and-beam construction, a usable atrium, high ceilings, clerestory windows and vast walls of glass. The L-shaped house sits on a flat, quarter-acre parcel on a hook-shaped cul-de-sac and measures in at a tad more than 3,700 square feet, with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, plus an office or fifth bedroom. A skylit atrium entry planted with bamboo opens on one side to a small dining room, and on the other to an ample living room with fireplace, built-in wet bar and two full walls of clerestory-topped windows and glass sliders. An updated kitchen offers a full range of top-grade appliances, and an adjoining den/breakfast room has a second fireplace and more floor-to-ceiling glass sliders that open to a sunny, south-facing backyard, where there’s an elegantly simple rectangular swimming pool and open sky views.
