Big pay rise for Inbetweeners stars

Young stars to earn five times what they netted from original

A sequel to ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ is in the works, with its four young stars set to net £2.5 million each to return. They each earned £500,000 for the first film.

Damon Beesley told The Sun’s TV Biz that the film had been green-lit and that the stars - James Buckley, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison - would all return.

Beesley said about the upcoming comedy, “We miss working with Simon, Joe, James and even Blake too much not to give it a go. I don’t want to give too much away at this stage but yes, we have been developing an idea for a sequel.”

‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ became the biggest British comedy ever last year, exceeding all expectations by earning £55 million at the box office. The budget was just £3.5 million.

Since it first aired in 2008, ‘The Inbetweeners’ has won multiple awards and was a huge ratings success, growing from 321,000 viewers for its first ever episode to 3.7 million for the series 3 finale.

An American remake aired in late August but was met with widespread criticism from both fans of the British series and the press.

‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ is getting a belated US release on 7 September 2012.
