Bill Skarsgård's classic horror remake Nosferatu lands Christmas 2024 release date

The Nosferatu remake starring Bill Skarsgård has landed a release date for Christmas Day next year.

The new movie from The Northman's Robert Eggers is set to see the It star play vampire Count Orlok opposite Lily-Rose Depp's Ellen, the haunted wife of an estate agent (Nicholas Hoult).

It has now been confirmed that the film will be released on December 25, 2024 in the US, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed as cinemas are traditionally closed on Christmas Day in Britain.

“The audacious filmmaking of Robert Eggers is always a gift for fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning quite the Christmas feast,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement (via Variety).

It comes after a terrifying first look at Nosferatu emerged last week, showing Depp in character as a silhouette of the vampire's hand covers her.

"Yeah, it's a scary film. It's a Gothic horror movie," Eggers recently explained to Empire.

"I do think that there hasn't been an old-school Gothic movie that's actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case."

Elaborating on the central role of Depp's character, the director added: "It's even more Ellen's story than previous versions. And Lily-Rose is absolutely phenomenal."

Nosferatu's previous versions were released in 1922 and 1979, directed by FW Murnau and Werner Herzog, respectively.

As well as Skarsgård, Depp and Hoult, the new version is set to star Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Willem Dafoe.

Nosferatu will be released in US cinemas on December 25, 2024. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
