According to The Hollywood Reporter, 25-year-old Bill Skarsgard has been cast as Pennywise the Clown in the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘It’.

“Bill Skarsgard has the It factor,” they revealed. “The actor, who is one of the stars of Hemlock Grove, has nabbed the role of Stephen King’s iconic villain Pennywise the Clown in New Line’s adaptation of the author’s landmark novel It.”

“Skarsgard is in final negotiations to star in the horror pic whose cast will also include St. Vincent actor Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jeremy Ray Taylor.”

But who is Bill Skarsgard?

He’s a young Swedish actor best known for the role of Roman Godfrey in ‘Hemlock Grove’. He’s also appeared in the 2012 adaptation, ‘Anna Karenina’ as well as the recent ‘Divergent’ sequel, ‘Allegiant’.

And if you think the surname is familiar, Bill is the son of Stellen (’Deep Blue Sea’, ‘Thor’) and brother of Alexander (’True Blood’, ‘The Legend of Tarzan’).

And now he’s about to become the world’s scariest clown.

Stephen King’s ‘It’ has been searching for its Pennywise for some time… ever since Will Poulter pulled out of the movie along with former director, Cary Fukunaga. But now Andy Muschietti – the director behind surprise hit ‘Mama’ – has stepped up to take the helm.

“The story follows a group of teens called the Losers Club who defeat a creature called It. Years later, the creature returns, and the club, now adults, have to band together again even though they have no memory of the first battle.”

Apparently, ‘It’ will (once again) be told in two parts – the first movie telling the story of the children, while the second movie will focus on the group as adults.

Stephen King’s ‘It’ heads to cinemas on 8 September 2017.
