Billy Dee Williams quits Dancing with the Stars

Star Wars legend drops out due to chronic back pain

After appearing on American TV show, 'Dancing with the Stars' Billy Dee Williams has dropped out due to injury… but does this mean he's out of 'Star Wars VII' too?

He may be the coolest guy in the galaxy far, far away, but it looks as though 'Star Wars' legend Billy Dee Williams won't be moonwalking his way to victory. After a brief stint on 'Dancing with the Stars', the 76-year-old actor has been forced to pull out due to 'chronic back pain'. But does this mean his 'Star Wars VII' hopes are also dashed?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Billy Dee Williams (known for playing Landon Calrissian in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy) has been forced to pull out of the competition due to injury.

"Billy Dee Williams and Emma Slater will not continue to fight for, or casually shuffle towards, season 18′s coveted mirrorball trophy on ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars'," they explained. "Williams, 76, cited chronic back pain and his doctor's warning not to dance as reasons for sitting out tonight. The 'Star Wars' actor, who's had two hip replacements, thanked Slater for 'this wonderful, brilliant, fantastic blast of a time' and promised to keep dancing - 'It's an epic part of me now,' he said of his ballroom experience."

Of course, many wondered whether his appearance on the show would preclude him from starring in the upcoming 'Star Wars VII'. But it looks as though Billy Dee Williams' early exit could be a blessing in disguise.

Despite this 'chronic back pain' his exit from 'Dancing with the Stars' may well have opened up his schedule for the foreseeable future. And for the conspiracy theorists amongst us, could even have been planned all along.

Whatever the case, we hope his injuries clear up in time for the upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII'. And let's hope Abrams and co. have already given him a part in the next 'Star Wars' movie.

Do you think Billy Dee Williams could appear in 'Star Wars VII'? Will his injury make an appearance in the sequel trilogy difficult? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
