Bindi Irwin has shared a sweet throwback of herself with her late father Steve Irwin.

The 21-year-old described her dad, who died in 2006 after being pierced in the chest with a stingray barb, as her "superhero" in the post to social media.

The playful snap sees Steve hold up his daughter's hair while she peers out from over a blender.

Bindi captioned the photo: "Smoothie Sunday. #Flashback to these wonderful moments with my superhero."

It comes as the newly-married Irwin has recently disclosed the unusual circumstances of her honeymoon after wedding Chandler Powell in the middle of a pandemic.

They had to put their plans on hold to take care of Australia Zoo, which was started by Steve, as they kept up the cleaning duties and animal care while the zoo remained closed to the public.

"This is probably the busiest honeymoon in history, along with the weirdest honeymoon ever," Chandler, 23, shared in a special episode of programme Crikey! It's the Irwin's.

They tied the knot at the zoo in March in a ceremony without guests although Bindi's brother Robert and mother Terri were present, with her brother walking her down the aisle.

The couple also made sure to include Steve in their ceremony as they lit a candle together to honour his memory.

In June, Bindi hit out at the paparazzi for disrupting her "dream" wedding as she was forced to change locations for the ceremony at last minute after a press helicopter flew over the zoo, disrupting wildlife.

“We had to leave our stunning wedding venue on the African Savannah for their safety. I said goodbye to the place I had dreamed of getting married for so many years," she shared in a post to Instagram.
