‘Black Mirror Bandersnatch’ first trailer revealed by Netflix, confirms air date

Netflix have revealed the first trailer for their upcoming Black Mirror ‘event’ Bandersnatch – and it confirms that it’s landing onto the streaming service tomorrow.

The project has been rumoured to be everything from a working title of Season 5, to a movie, to a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style special episode that’ll allow fans to select from several narrative options at different turning points during the show.

The fact it’s being called an ‘event,’ and that the trailer seems to be setting up a plot involving an adventure game, based on a book, makes us think those Choose Your Own Adventure rumours were spot-on.

If that really is what Charlie Brooker and Netflix have created, it could change the way we experience streaming shows forever.

It’s still not clear whether Bandersnatch is part of season 5 of the show, or if it’s a one-off and we’ll have to wait until 2020 to see the next series in full.

All we know for sure about season 5 of Black Mirror is that it’ll feature Miley Cyrus, so if she pops up in the Bandersnatch event tomorrow, we’ll have our answer. And it certainly looks like it’ll fit with what she’s said about her role in season 5.

“There’s a lot of dimension to it,” Cyrus said. “And actually it was while the devastation of Malibu was happening, and it was a really weird learning experience for me because I was so far from home and the show is already really dark, and it’s already kind of eerie when you’re there the whole time.”

“But I learned a lot about myself, and I think I was able to use that and put that into it.”

Looking like David Cronenberg’s Videodrome meets an Atari 2600, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch will land on Netflix on 28 December – so we only have to wait until tomorrow for the mystery to be revealed.
