Blade gets exciting filming update after delay

Marvel's Blade reboot will finally begin shooting this spring.

Originally announced at the 2019 incarnation of San Diego Comic-Con International, with double Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali weaponising garlic in the lead role, this one's been cursed by delays ever since.

Bassam Tariq (director of Mogul Mowgli) came and went, while Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) eventually took over, but by the time fans get to see it, over five years will have passed.

President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige was recently asked for an update on Blade by Entertainment Weekly.

He replied: "It's going well. Our director Yann is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so."

Fingers crossed everything runs smoothly, then.

Alongside actor Ali, the new Blade stars Delroy Lindo (The Good Fight), Aaron Pierre (Krypton) and most likely Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, who crossed paths with The Daywalker in Eternals.

Elsewhere in Feige's conversation, he revealed what else he's particularly pumped for when it comes to the future of the MCU.

"The Fantastic Four," he said. "We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There's certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that's something that is really exciting for us.

"People will start to hear more about that soon. We plan on that being a big pillar of the MCU going forward, just the way they've been in the comics for 50 or 60 years."

Blade is scheduled for a September 6, 2024 release.
