Blake Lively to star in film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestseller It Ends with Us

Hollywood’s sweetheart, Blake Lively, will be the lead in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book It Ends With Us.

The novel has sold more than a million copies since its release in 2016 and, last year, it became an undeniable TikTok trend, with more than two billion people watching videos shared with the book’s hashtag.

It Ends With Us tells the story of Lily, a college graduate who moves to Boston, in hopes of opening her own flower shop.

There, she falls in love with Ryle, a neurosurgeon with a “no dating” rule, while trying to come to terms with memories of her past love, Atlas, and her parents’ abusive relationship.

A while later, Atlas suddenly reappears in Lily’s life, putting the life Lily built with Ryle at risk.

In the past, Hoover shared that the story of the book was inspired by her parents’ relationship, and it was very difficult for her to write it.

Following the huge success of the book, Justin Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer, optioned the novel for an adaptation back in 2019.

And now, the leads of the highly anticipated project have been revealed. Blake Lively will be playing Lily, while Baldoni will play Ryle, who will also direct and produce the film.

To share the big news on Instagram, the author decided to take her followers to the house she grew up in after her mother left her abusive relationship.

She started the video by thanking her mother for getting the family “out of a scary situation”.

Hoover became emotional as she talked about how touching it was to be discussing the film adaptation of a book she loosely based on her mother’s story.

She went on to share the happy news about the castings, saying: “Our Lily is going to be played by Blake Lively. Blake Lively, y’all. She’s my dream Lily.

“And then, when I first met Justin Baldoni, who is directing the film for us, I immediately wanted him to be Ryle. I just thought that he had what it takes to play that character. And the good news is; he’s going to be Ryle.

“So we have our Ryle and our Lily. I think that Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have what it takes to bring these characters to life.”

As the movie is in its early stages of production, it’s unclear when it will be released.
