She told a reporter: "It's obviously been a long and painful situation for the family, and I hope they find some resolution and peace."

Blanchett's co-star Alec Baldwin, meanwhile, took to Twitter to respond to followers asking him for comment.

The actor posted: "What the f**k is wrong w u that u think we all need to b commenting on this family's personal struggle?" he responded when one tweeter asked whether he thought he should apologise to Farrow..

To another, he wrote: "So you know who's guilty? Who's lying? You, personally, know that?"

He also tweeted: "You are mistaken if you think there is a place for me, or any outsider, in this family's issue."

The 28-year-old daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen has renewed claims of sexual abuse by her father, which first surfaced in the 90s. She claims that she was abused age seven after being adopted by the Hollywood couple. The allegations were investigated at the time, but the filmmaker was not charged.

In the piece published this weekend, Farrow speaks directly to a number of actors who've worked with the director, saying: "What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone?

"Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?"

Farrow's claims have been referenced recently by both her mother Mia and brother Ronan after Allen was awarded the Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes and nominated for an Oscar.
