What About Prom? Why You Won't See Austin Mahone at the School Dance This Year

He may have millions of young, female fans, but Austin Mahone has no plans to take any of them to prom.

“I never went to prom and I don’t really care about prom either,” the "What About Love" singer told Yahoo while promoting Pop-Tarts’s Crazy Good Summer program. “I’d much rather be traveling the world and doing way cooler things than dancing with random people." If only all of us could be that lucky.

In addition to constantly being on the road, Mahone — who has been home-schooled since his sophomore year of high school — has been busy collaborating with Pitbull and has even spent time in the studio with Justin Bieber.

“Working with [Bieber] in the studio was pretty sweet,” shared Mahone. “We were just working on a new song. He works really well in the studio and he’s really cool, so it was a good time.”

Their relationship is so good that Mahone, 18, doesn’t mind being called "the next Justin Bieber." "It's definitely flattering because he's one of the biggest teenage artists in the world right now," Austin admitted. Still, he made it clear that, "For me, I want people to see me as an own artist and create a path for myself."

Right now, Mahone is focused on the release of his album, Secret, as well as finding a special someone to call his girlfriend.

Although he's currently "100 percent single," Mahone knows what he wants in a gal pal. "I look for a girl that I can talk to about anything," he revealed. "I also like girls that are shorter than me." (Mahone is 5-foot-10.)

"I also like a girl definitely with nice hair," he added. "Some days I like brunettes more, but I don't know."

As for his celebrity crush, he's still got a thing for Rihanna. "Her songs are just amazing and she's gorgeous," Mahone gushed. "I love her."

"MMM Yeah."
