Richard Marx and Cynthia Rhodes Split After 25 Years of Marriage

After 25 years of marriage, singer Richard Marx and his actress wife Cynthia Rhodes are calling it quits.

Marx, known for his '80s and '90s power ballads, such as "Right Here Waiting" and "Now and Forever," revealed the split Friday during an appearance on "Katie," when Katie Couric noted that the 50-year-old was "back on the market." His rep later confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple separated in July and are going through a divorce.

Rhodes, 57, is best known for her stint in 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing," in which she played the dance partner of Patrick Swayze's character. She retired from acting soon after the classic film. Instead of traveling from film set to film set, she concentrated on raising three sons — now all in their 20s — with Marx outside his hometown of Chicago.

Marx raved about his wife during a 2012 appearance on "Access Hollywood Live."

"I totally married up," he gushed. "I totally married out of my league."

But after turning 50 in September, he apparently decided he needed a change.

"You hit 50 and go, what do I want to do differently?" he told Couric. "I want to do as much differently as possible."

When Couric asked how he felt about getting back into the dating game, Marx replied, "It's all brand new to me, so I'm just having fun."
