First pics: Emma Watson as a burlesque dancer in The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Harry Potter star Emma Watson dresses up as a burlesque dancer for her new film 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'.

It's big change from her Hogwarts uniform.

The surprising new look can be seen in the new trailer for the coming-of-age film, where Watson dances in the risqué costume during a burlesque show to a song from the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'.

Watson, 22, co-stars with Nina Dobrev, Logan Lerman, Paul Rudd and Ezra Miller in the film, which is based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky.

It sees Lerman play the new kid at school, who is befriended by Watson and Miller's eccentric students.

Discussing the role at the MTV Movie Awards, Watson said: "I think 'Harry Potter fans' will love it because it has so much heart, like the 'Harry Potter' stories do."

"I feel like it's the perfect transition from 'Harry Potter' to kind of a more adolescent movie. It's a little bit of an older tone. It's darker."

Hermione Granger's alter ego is also shooting the crime film 'The Bling Ring', where she plays one of a gang of celeb-obsessed teenagers who track the whereabouts of celebrities in order to rob their homes. The project also required her to don a surprising outfit.

'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' is released in the US in September, but doesn't have a UK release date yet.
