New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Lizard pics hit the web (ha!)

Two tantalising images from the upcoming 'Amazing Spider-Man' have hit the web, showing us more of Rhys Ifans' Dr. Curt Connors, in his villainous Lizard form.

When concept art surfaced online late last year showing the design of the film's bad guy, fans immediately took a dislike to the direction director Marc Webb had taken.

For many it remains too close to the original, hokier design of the character, which gave him a humanoid face compared to the long lizard-like snout adopted for much of the character's history.

The latter look has been a mainstay in Spider-Man lore for several decades and was the look picked up for numerous video games and the classic 90s cartoon.

Another complaint about the original images was that he wasn't wearing the shredded lab coat that has come to form part of the villain's iconic look, but a new image has revealed that he will indeed wear such attire for at least a portion of the film.

The pic also reveals a potential plot point. A Mega Bloks toy set revealed at a toy fair earlier this year included a figure of a lizard-like man in a SWAT uniform. This led to rumours that Dr. Connors may convert people to a similarly scaly form to do his bidding during the film.

Now notice how green the man being held by The Lizard is. It could well be the light, it could be he's just feeling queasy from being in a sewer, but it could also be confirmation that Spidey will be taking on more than one reptile foe.

The other image shows The Lizard's hand holding Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) camera. Parker, the alter ego of Spider-Man, makes a living as a photographer in the comics.

Why the Lizard has it or wants it remains a mystery.

Directed by Marc Webb, 'The Amazing Spider-Man' also stars Emma Stone, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary. The film hits cinemas on 4 July 2012.
