Cloud Atlas trailer premiere

The first images and trailer from the forthcoming star-studded epic 'Cloud Atlas' have emerged (in non-leaked form!).

Watch it below.

The hugely ambitious project, adapted from the best-selling novel by David Mitchell, is being made by Matrix directors Lana and Andy Wachowski and German director Tom Tykwer.

The impressive ensemble cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw and Wachowski regular Hugo Weaving.

The plot, the labyrinthine nature of which makes the project so ambitious, requires the cast to play several roles, while the action takes place across multiple eras and countries.

Grant recently spoke of his various roles in the film, telling Empire: "I have six cameo parts in this strange, ambitious film. I do a lot of killing and raping. I wear an awful lot of prosthetic make up, too. You probably won't know that I am in the film!

"But it was a laugh. I thought before I read it that I'd turn it down, which I normally do, but I was interested in meeting the Wachowskis because I have always admired them enormously. And they are so charming and fascinating."

It's currently in its post-production stage, and is due for release in October.
