First look: The Wolverine animated poster

Hugh Jackman gets animated in new promo

Movie posters can be hit-or-miss. From The iconic 'Alien' egg and 'The Dark Knight's' belief in Harvey Dent, to the bland and cringe worthy promos of every Matthew McConaughey film.

But the stylish new animated poster for 'The Wolverine', starring Hugh Jackman, is just plain attention seeking. And very good at it.

The poster shows a shirtless Jackman, claws and all, biding his time with a katana sword above a stormy Tokyo skyline. It's all standard promo territory. But the detailed animated action of the rain, lightning flashes and cityscape make a big brooding difference. It's all very moody indeed.

Here's the synopsis, courtesy of Fox:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.
Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

'The Wolverine', starring Hugh Jackman, is out 26 July 2013
