Exclusive: Quentin Tarantino’s rom-com confession

When Yahoo! Movies sat down with Quentin Tarantino to talk about 'Django Unchained' and his rather stellar career, the Oscar-winning director revealed a surprising guilty pleasure: Kate Hudson rom-coms.

“I don’t really wanna watch them at home. I don’t wanna leave the house and go see the new Katherine Heigl movie,” said the Quentin, “but if I’m on an airplane, a Kate Hudson movie is what I’m looking for,"

“I’ll sit there and I’ll cry… I think it’s the altitude or something like that.”

The video of our epic Q&A is below.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, ‘Django Unchained’ stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

“When Jamie [Foxx] showed up, he was the guy. He was the cowboy,” said Quentin, who has always wanted to do a Western dealing with the subject of “America’s troubled past”.

Speaking to Yahoo! Movies competition winners about his infamous obsession with gore, Quentin said: “What I like about violence is it’s one of the most cinematic things you can do in film… that and the mix of music. It’s almost it’s almost as if Edison invented the camera to shoot cool violence…”

'Django Unchained' is released in the UK on January 18 2013.
