Star Wars: the female fighter pilots cut from Jedi

Ever wonder why the 'Star Wars' universe was such a saber-fest? Well now we know why: meet the three female fighter pilots cut from 'Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi'.

One of the them, an A-Wing Pilot, actually made it into the final cut, but her one line "Got it," was dubbed over by a male voice in post-production. Not only did people think she was a man, but her character was killed by a TIE Fighter seconds later. Bizarrely, a second pilot appears to be an elderly woman.

It's thought the two unnamed women may have been cut because watching ladies incinerated by the Empire would have been too disturbing for early 80s movie goers… especially if one of them looked like your nan.

Footage of these two pilots can be found in the special features for the Blu-ray release of the original 'Star Wars' trilogy last September but some extras details on these forgotten female rebels has emerged on Buzzfeed this week.

For example, there was a third female rebel - an X-Wing pilot played by French actress Vivienne Chandler - who didn't even make it into the Blu-ray extras, let alone the cinematic release. The actress spent three days filming scenes for 'Return of the Jedi', and had more than a page of dialogue between her and an unnamed male actor cut.

We know about her exploits on the 'Star Wars' finale because she's now a regular on the convention circuit.
