New suit for Robocop

The new Robocop has got himself a new suit, judging by a picture leaked from the set of the forthcoming remake.

Pictures of the robot policeman's suit from director Jose Padilha's new version of the 80s actioner emerged over the summer, causing widespread disappointment from fans.

But this latest incarnation is reportedly pleasing those who deemed the first mechanical suit, erm, unsuitable.

Twitter user (and reputedly a filmmaker, actor and director) Davor Mamuzic dropped the picture on his feed, adding: "It's a new suit... the whole film he will wear that one... that's the new slick design."

Rumours abound that the reason for there being two suits in the film is a feature of the new Robocop himself, as he moves between two 'modes' of appearance, 'social' and 'combat'.

It's possible that the first look at the suit, which was distinctly non-threatening, was slain police officer Murphy in 'social' mode — a fact that caused confusion considering Robocop had only one suit in director Paul Verhoeven's benchmark original.

An early draft of the script also reportedly featured a more 'evolving' suit that is altered through the film.

The new 'Robocop' stars Joel Kinnaman as cop Alex Murphy, who becomes the cyborg law enforcer, alongside Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Jay Baruchel, Michael K. Williams and Abbie Cornish.

But whatever Murphy is wearing, it will be a while before we find out for sure. It's not due until February 7, 2014.
