A Bradford school has raised more than £4,000 to help those affected by the life-changing earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Beckfoot Heaton Primary School and Nursery wanted to show students how to make a positive difference to the world.

The mantra is listed on the school’s vision statement, headteacher Zoe Mawson said.

The fundraiser has raised £4,3388.51 for Rahma Mercy’s charity appeal.

Mrs Mawson said: "The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria captured the hearts of millions across the world, including here at Beckfoot Heaton.

“When one of our staff suggested the fundraiser, I thought it was an excellent idea -  raising money for a much needed cause and helping our children see our vision and values in action.

“Our school has been recognised as having a great, caring community but we were not expecting SUCH an incredible response.

“The children gasped then cheered when the amount was announced.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Khaliq for being the mastermind, Rahma Mercy charity as well as all the food / drink donators for their generous support and all the wonderful children, families and staff for buying the food and making such a difference."
