Branagh set to direct Cinderella?

Sir Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct Cinderella.

The Bafta-winning filmmaker is "negotiating" to take control of Disney's live-action adaptation following Mark Romanek's exit from the job due to "creative differences", reported Vulture.

Cate Blanchett is still attached to play the evil stepmother, while the search for a lead actress to portray the princess continues, with Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Gabrielle Wilde being eyed for the role.

Kenneth - who directed Thor and big-screen adaptations of William Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It - has been busy with his next film, Jack Ryan, which will open in the UK on Boxing Day.

Disney apparently wants to start shooting Cinderella in London in the autumn for a potential 2014 release.
