According to Deadline, Jackson was personally suggested by Murphy for the lead role in the show, which is being brought to the screen by writer Shawn Ryan – the man behind gritty cop series 'The Shield'.

Much like in the original film series, he will play a young cop transplanted from his hometown of Detroit to posh Beverly Hills.

Murphy will appear as his father in the pilot show, and may have a recurring role if it gets the green light for a full series.

As well as playing Alpa Chino in 2008's 'Tropic Thunder', Jackson has snagged roles in 'Fast & Furious' and 'Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief'.
