Bridesmaids star lining up for Anchorman 2

Kristen Wiig is reportedly in negotiations for a starring role in the forthcoming 'Anchorman' sequel.

The breakthrough star of 'Bridesmaids' would apparently appear as love interest for Steve Carell's character, the simple but affectionate weatherman Brick Tamland.

There's little news yet on other casting for the sequel, to be named 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues'.

But all four members of the Channel 4 Evening News team – Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana, David Koechner as Champ Kind, Carell as Tamland and, of course, Will Ferrel as Ron Burgundy – will be back.

It's thought that there will also be return performances from Vince Vaughn as rival newsman Wes Mantooth and Fred Willard as news editor Ed Harken, while producer Judd Apatow has also suggested that Christina Applegate will be back as Burgundy's lady love Veronica Corningstone.

Ferrell and director/writer Adam McKay are reportedly not yet finished with the script, however.

A release is expected in autumn, 2013.
