Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page has been cast in a leading role in the forthcoming Dungeons and Dragons film.

The British actor, who plays the Duke of Hastings Simon Basset in Netflix’s hit period drama, will star in the long-awaited adaptation of the famous game, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other cast members on the project, which is being produced by Paramount, include Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith.

With Page also set to host this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, fans celebrated both pieces of good news for the actor.

“Regé really is BOOKED and BUSY omg!! Love that for him!!” one fan wrote.

“I suddenly have a passion for Dungeons & Dragons,” another joked.

Based on the hugely popular fantasy role-playing game of the same name, the Dungeons and Dragons movie has been described as a subversive take on the subject matter and will feature a large ensemble cast.

It will be directed by Game Night’s Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who also wrote the latest version of the script, with filming scheduled to begin early this year in Belfast.

It won’t be the first time the game has been adapted for the big screen, with a film starring Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans and Thora Birch being released in 2000. However, Dungeons & Dragons debuted to poor takings at the box office and was widely panned by critics.
