Brie Larson won’t star in her first ‘Captain Marvel’ movie until 2019, but anticipation for the character’s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already super-high – after all, she’ll be the first female superhero to star in her own MCU movie.

The lengthy stretch between Marvel announcing Larson had been cast in July 2016 and the start of production on ‘Captain Marvel’ (which we estimate will be around the start of 2018) gives her plenty of time to prepare for the very important role.

Ahead of the release of ‘Kong: Skull Island’, in which she stars opposite fellow Marvel star Tom Hiddleston and cinematic icon King Kong, she discussed her preparations and understanding of the character with IGN.

Asked what the character means to her, Larson said: “It’s hard for me to condense what she means to me… I was once a young girl, and I was confused by what a hero was and what I wanted to be when I grew up and what was important to me.

“So I think it’s complicated… and to attempt to become a symbol of truth and navigating through all the weird questions of growing up feels so important to me.”

On how that links to Captain Marvel, aka fighter pilot Carol Danvers, she added: “The fact that she can be a bridge between two worlds, that she can go to Earth and go to space and that her own personal place is in this little area between where Earth ends and space begins – that that’s only hers – is so moving to me.

“I’m just inspired. I’ve been so inspired, like going through all the comics and reading them right now that’s been like, what I’m doing on the side, and I’m just amazed.”

The character of Captain Marvel, a very powerful hero who has been central to the comic book world for a few years now, is paramount of course, but so to is the look of a character who could soon become an icon.

Asked about what hair style Larson will be adopting for her Captain Marvel, the actress wasn’t giving anything away.

“I can’t say anything… I feel like this is a big conversation and everyday I have people yelling at me on Twitter like you better have long hair, or you better have a mohawk, or you better wear the helmet, or you better not wear the helmet, so someone’s going to be mad.”

Certainly true of comic book fans.

‘Captain Marvel’ is slated for a 2019 release date. While not confirmed, it’s certainly possible that Larson may make her debut as the character in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ next year.
