Marvel's Brie Larson has landed an exciting new role, with the star set to make her West End debut in Elektra.

The Oscar winner will appear in the play from January 13 to January 18 2025 at Theatre Royal Brighton, before the production moves to the Duke of York's Theatre in London for a strictly limited 11-week season from January 24.

Elektra, which is being directed by Daniel Fish from a translation by award-winning poet Anne Carson, will be the first major revival of Sophokles's Greek tragedy in over a decade.

The story centres on the titular character, who is "consumed by grief, a need for survival and a thirst for vengeance" after her father's assassination.

However, when Elektra's long lost brother Orestes finally returns home, "she urges him to a savage and terrifying conclusion, but at what cost?"

"I couldn’t be more excited to perform in this Greek drama, or in better company collaborating with Daniel Fish and Anne Carson," Larson shared in a statement.

"Storytelling has always been the way I organize life, feelings and experiences. I look forward to sharing space with the wonderful West End audience while we explore this timeless story."

Fish added: "What is ancient and what is contemporary? Carson’s translation explodes this question.

"It is a thrilling challenge to work on Sophokles's tragedy, by way of Carson’s words, and on the beautiful stage of The Duke of York’s with Brie Larson."

Further casting for Elektra will be announced in due course. Tickets go on general sale on October 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, Fish's acclaimed production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! previously won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival in 2019, before the production transferred to the West End and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival in 2023.
