Captain Marvel was a monster hit for Marvel when it was released earlier this year.

Audiences the world over flocked to see Brie Larson’s debut as Carol Danvers, helping it gross over £890 million ($1.128 billion) at the box office. This means that a Captain Marvel sequel is inevitable, with Larson already having reprised the character in Avengers: Endgame and openly discussing her hopes for an all-female Marvel movie, too.

But when can we expect to see Captain Marvel 2? At the San Diego Comic-Con back in July Kevin Feige confirmed that a sequel was in development, but stopped short of providing anymore information.

It turns out that Brie Larson doesn’t have further details, too, because after being asked straight out by Variety, “Do you know when you’re doing the next Captain Marvel?,” she responded, “No.” In fact, Larson’s schedule is so free she doesn’t “really know what job” she is going to do next. Something that she finds “very exciting.”

“I don’t even know what my life’s gonna be,” Larson continued. “And most of this year, you know, I had to do the press tour. But then the last half of the year, I’ve just been focusing way more on just doing what I want to do that’s completely outside of my job.”

“I just feel like it’s been this incubation time. Whether it’s incubation because I’m developing projects, and also incubation myself, being, like: ‘OK, I’m going to be turning 30. I’ve been working a lot. I need to just like change it up and see what’s there for me — see who I am now. And which ways that I want to grow’.”

With Marvel’s slate jam packed with releases all the way up to May 6, 2022, when Black Panther II is released, the earliest we can expect to see Captain Marvel 2 is either the tail-end of 2022 or, most likely, 2023. So Larson has quite a bit more time to relax and recuperate before she has to return as Danvers.
