If you give the Boston Bruins’ vaunted powerplay enough chances, they will capitalize, but you have to wonder why they even had a man advantage during the second period of Tuesday’s Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Trailing 2-1 to the St. Louis Blues at TD Garden, Boston was sent back to the powerplay for the fourth time after Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist sent Bruins defenceman Connor Clifton sprawling.

Clifton appeared to clearly sell the play, falling easily upon contact, but Sundqvist’s appeal went unrecognized, and the Bruins pounced.

On the ensuing powerplay, Charlie McAvoy made the Blues pay. He walked into the offensive zone with a ton of time and space and ripped a quick wrist shot past Jordan Binnington to knot things up at two.

Entering Game 1, the Bruins converted a jaw-dropping 34 percent of their power play attempts. If they continue to get chances, deserved or not, it’s going to be a tough series for the Blues.
