Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak to release album as new band Silk Sonic

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are set to release music together as part of a new band.

On Thursday (25 February) night, the musicians shared their new project with social media as they announced that they had formed a band called Silk Sonic.

The group’s first single will be released on 5 March.

“We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday 3/5 [5 March],” Mars tweeted.

Meanwhile, Paak wrote: “WE MADE AN ALBUM!! YALL GET THE FIRST SONG NEXT FRIDAY 3/5!! ROCKET EMOJIS AND ALL THAT!!!”

The picture shared shows album art with the title An Evening with Silk Sonic and says that the pair will be collaborating with singer Bootsy Collins, who is described as a “special guest host”.

On social media, fans of the pair celebrated the news, declaring that the Silk Sonic collaboration was already going to be their “new fave album”.

“This is about to be TOO much SAUCE!!!!!!” singer Durand Bernarr commented on Paak’s Instagram, while Snoh Aalegra left fire emojis.

Busta Rhymes simply commented with 10 head-exploding emojis.

Mars’s name trended on Twitter, with one fan commenting: “I don’t know if I’m living or just waiting for this music. The desert days are gone! I’m ready!”

“Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak started a band called Silk Sonic and they made an album together. I don’t have to be a psychic to know that we will look at this as one of the greatest things to happen within the decade,” another tweet read.

Mars and Paak have a history of collaboration, with the “Come Down” singer and rapper opening for Mars on tour and the pair separately appearing on Chic’s 2018 album It’s About Time.

It’s been nearly five years since Mars put out an album, with 24K Magic being released in November 2016. It contained singles such as “Uptown Funk”, “Treasure” and the title track “24K Magic”.

Paak’s fourth studio album, titled Ventura, was released in 2019.
