We were promised animated emoji, and we got animated emoji. During the presentation of iPhone X today, Apple showed off the long-awaited Animoji, its name for moving emoji.
Basically, the front-facing camera allows you to become the smiling poo, the dog, or the fox. It tracks your facial expressions and maps those onto the emoji, and records what you say to create a recorded message that looks like the emoji talking but with your voice.
A dozen emoji will be available for this feature when iPhone X launches later this month. They'll exist within the messages app on iOS 11. If you've always wanted to talk to your family and friends as a smirking dookie, well, get ready to spend a thousand bucks on a phone.
