How to Build A Girl writer Caitlin Moran has revealed a masturbation scene that was cut from the movie.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Moran said: "We wanted initially to start it with a musical number, with her masturbating with all of her wank fantasies kind of parading in front of her.
"Like Aslan, the three sailors from the musical On The Town and maybe some Muppets… Gonzo, I find him quite attractive… But the copyright issues were incredibly expensive."
Along with the cost, Moran also explained how she wrote the script years before shows like Fleabag had helped to normalised masturbation scenes involving women on screen.
"Also when I started writing this script, masturbation hadn’t been invented for women," Moran said.
"This was pre-Fleabag, pre-Amy Schumer, pre-Girls. So by the time we got around to shooting the film, everyone’s wanking now.
"So even though I invented it in 2010, I’m in my own wank backlash now. So we minimised the wanking and maximised the class war aspects instead."
"She was like, 'We've found her. We've found the girl,'" Moran recalled. "And (Feldstein) is just sunshine in a bag. Like, one of my greatest joys is just watching her."
How to Build A Girl is available on Amazon Prime Video from July 24.
