Call the Midwife’s Helen George has shared the first selfie she took in costume as midwife Trixie Franklin 10 years ago, as the latest series of the show aired this weekend.

Helen shared the photo to her Instagram account, showing her behind the scenes in a long blue dress, with her classic short platinum curls.

Alongside the post the across wrote, “first photo of me as Trixie 10 years ago. How far we have come…”

Series 10 of Call the Midwife aired this weekend and Helen said she hoped viewers would “enjoy [the cast and team’s] latest offering.”

The first episode of the latest series was charming and emotional in equal measure, as usual.

Helen's character Trixie is thrilled to be joining a private, upmarket clinic in Mayfair, as part of a strategy to help funding for the women of Poplar continue.

Each series of the show covers historical touch points and deals with important events of the time.

Series 10 began with a storyline around radiation poisoning, relating to the true events of nuclear testing during the Second World War (known as Operation Grapple) and the effects it had on real life soldiers who were present.

Fans of the show were excited to welcome the show back after restrictions around the pandemic caused delays. Series 11 is currently being filmed and it has since been confirmed that the show will return to at least series 14.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One on Sundays at 8pm.
