Yahoo Movies Call The Midwife's Stephen McGann shares sweet tribute to wife Heidi Thomas
Call The Midwife star Stephen McGann has shared a proud and touching tribute to his wife Heidi Thomas who created the show.
Stephen, who plays Dr Turner in the BBC One series, tweeted about his love for Heidi after a particularly emotional episode which shone a light on the struggles of being LGBTQ+ at the time.
"I loved that episode," he wrote on Twitter after Sunday (9 April)'s episode. "It was written by Heidi, with all of her heart and soul. I love my other half for her craft, goodness and courage to the ends of the earth. xxxx"
Fans also praised the storyline, which saw Michael, a 17-year-old boy struggling with his sexuality. He was seeking help with his sexuality in a time where being gay was a crime - it was illegal until 1967 - and we saw that struggle LGBTQ+ people faced.
"Bravo to #callthemidwife for the sensitive handling of the gay storyline tonight. So glad it worked out well for young Michael in the end... sadly for so many of his contemporaries this was not the case, and enlightened GPs like Dr Turner were something of a rarity."
