Cinderella is the latest movie to skip a cinema release and will instead premiere on a streaming platform.

Camila Cabello is making her acting debut in the musical rom-com's leading role, following up her pop career as a solo artist and previously as a member of Fifth Harmony.

While there's no clear release date as yet, it will arrive later this year on Amazon Prime Video after Sony Pictures handed the streamer the film's worldwide premiere rights, according to Deadline.

The project has been delayed several times and was supposed to arrive in cinemas in July. Sony will still release it to cinemas in China, however.

Former 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon has written and directed the upcoming fairytale movie. Cannon is also known for creating the Pitch Perfect franchise.

Cinderella will be retold in musical form as the neglected and hardworking character gets the chance to meet her Prince Charming. Starring alongside Cabello is Pose's Billy Porter, who will play Cinderella's fairy godparent, while Frozen star Idina Menzel will portray Cinderella's evil stepmother.

The story of Cinderella first came to life on screen in the 1950 animation film by Disney, featuring songs such as 'A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes'. In the upcoming movie, there will be original music from Cabello and Menzel.

Cinderella is set for release later this year on Amazon Prime Video.
