While the actor's level of involvement in the upcoming instalment remains unknown, it's been teased that horror icon Todd will appear in some capacity.
Having played the titular antagonist in the original movie, then reprising the role for its maligned sequels too, the actor is intrinsically linked to the series – and he's already a big fan of where it's heading now that all-new talent is at the helm.
"They're finishing up touches and I'm probably going to get a copy in a timely fashion," Todd explained in a new interview with Movieweb.
"I'm fully aboard the team. It's a great team. Nia DaCosta. Not only a female director, but an African American director.
"You have Jordan Peele, who is arguably one of the hottest producers around right now. I think people are gonna be proud to see the character and the story continue. The entire film is shot in Chicago. That new look Chicago."
Watchmen's Yahya Abdul Mateen II plays Anthony McCoy, a visual artist who moves to a luxury apartment that has been built in place of the once-terrorised housing projects of Cabrini Green.
"With Anthony's painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman," the official synopsis reads, recalling the neighbourhood's dark past with the supernatural serial killer.
"Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, unknowingly opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny."
Candyman is set for release in UK cinemas on Friday, October 16.
