CANNES: Louis Tisne Launches Elastic Film

LONDON — Louis Tisne has launched London- and Berlin-based production company Elastic Film, which will develop and produce international director-driven films and TV drama.

Tisne executive produced Saverio Costanzo’s “Hungry Hearts,” which won best actor and actress prizes in Venice for Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher, and “Cub,” which premiered at Toronto’s Midnight Madness 2015, and won best director at Sitges for Jonas Govaerts. “Hungry Hearts” is to be released in North America by IFC on June 5, and “Cub” will be released in the U.K. this summer by Altitude.

Govaerts and Tisne are in development on two English-language projects. The first, a fun horror taking place in the rock ‘n’ roll industry, is being written by Irish screenwriter Kevin Lehane (“Grabbers”). The second, soon to be announced, is the adaptation of a haunting short-story to be written by a Brit-listed British writer.

Collaboration with Costanzo (and Wildside, Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli’s Rome-based production company) intensifies with two projects in active development. One of them will be a directing vehicle for Costanzo.

Elastic, with offices in London and Berlin, has stretched its European reach further with a strategic alliance with Belgium production company Potemkino to maximize the use of Belgium financing opportunities. Potemkino and Tisne produced “Cub” together, and will be collaborating on further projects in the future. Potemkino is co-producing Terence Davies’ “A Quiet Passion” with Hurricane Films and co-produced Berlin Competition entry “Eisenstein in Guanajuato.”

“After a fantastic 2014 with my two first productions launching in Venice Competition and TIFF Midnight Madness respectively and both winning important prizes, I am delighted to take my international and European vision of film producing into a consolidated production structure,” Tisne said. “2015 is a year of consolidation and development in preparation for a productive 2016.”

Elastic will continue to nurture new talent by executive producing films from up-and-coming directors such as was the case with Govaerts on “Cub” and debut director Bo Mikkelsen on “What We Become.” “What We Become,” executive produced by Tisne, and produced by Copenhagen-based Meta Films, is in post-production, with artwork and first footage available in Cannes through the film’s sales agent Indie Sales.

Tisne started out in acquisitions at Momentum Pictures before spearheading the international production push at Pathe UK, always focusing on director-driven international films. His acquisition and production credits include “Let the Right One In,” “Caramel” and “This Must Be the Place.” Since 2012, he has been producing independently, executive producing three films to date: “Hungry Hearts,” “Cub” and “What We Become.”
