Cannes: Mark Ruffalo To Be Feted By Italy’s Giffoni Fest For Kids

Mark Ruffalo will be feted by Italy’s Giffoni Film Festival for children, the unique cinematic holiday camp of sorts where kids, teens and young adults from all over the world watch movies and judge them.

The U.S. actor best known to kids for his roles as Marvel Comics character Dr. Bruce Banner/the Hulk in the “The Avengers” franchise will hold an onstage conversation with young jurors from 52 countries including Australia, South Korea, France, Jordan, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, and the U.S.

The annual theme driving conversations, meetings and screenings at fest this year is Carpe Diem, the Latin aphorism that can be translated as “seize the day.”

Giffoni’s 45th edition will run July 17-26.

At a presser in Cannes fest topper Claudio Gubitosi also announced that construction work has begun on his long-gestating Giffoni Multimedia Valley project, which involves an expansion of the event’s infrastructure and its transformation, by 2016, into a kind of Sundance Institute for children.

The Southern Italian fest has been exporting its format around the world, most recently through an agreement to hold a version of the fest in Tiblisi, Georgia, from October 16-19.
