Cannes: Medienboard Chief Celebrates Festival Films ‘An,’ ‘Lamb’ with Filmmakers

German film fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg hosted drinks Monday in the garden of Cannes’ Grand Hotel in honor of the fund’s two international co-productions in the festival’s Un Certain Regard section, Naomi Kawase’s opening film “An,” and Yared Zeleke’s Ethiopia-set “Lamb.” Kirsten Niehuus, Medienboard’s managing director of film funding, hosted the event, which was supported by Variety.

“Lamb” is the first feature from Zeleke, who was joined at the reception by the film’s German producer Johannes Rexin of Heimatfilm, and Kidist Siyum and Rediat Amare, who appear in the film. Kawase was joined by actor Nagase Masatoshi, who stars in the film and readers may remember from Jim Jarmusch’s much-loved “Mystery Train,” which played in competition in Cannes in 1989.
